Whether you secure implants with a crown, bridge, or denture, you need time to receive your restoration. There are several steps to the dental implant process:
Planning Your Treatment
To begin the process, you will meet with Dr. Rever. He will thoroughly examine your mouth and review your medical history.
During this consultation and examination, he will determine if you are healthy enough to get dental implants. To qualify for implants, you must have good overall and oral health and enough bone to support the implant posts.
If you use tobacco, he will recommend you quit to give you the best chance at success. Tobacco products like cigarettes and vapes slow down the healing process. Your implants can fail if you use tobacco during the implant process.
Dr. Rever will then create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. We can schedule your surgery quickly if you do not require any preparatory procedures, such as a bone graft or periodontal therapy.
Dental implants need healthy jaw bone tissue and gum tissue to be successful. Grafting uses healthy gum or bone tissue to build up the gums or the jaw bone. Additionally, if you have gum disease, we recommend deep cleaning or even surgery, depending on the extent of your gum damage. Placing Your Dental Implants
Our dentist will place dental implants in the jaw bone during a surgical procedure using a local anesthetic. The size, type, and number of implants you need depend on your unique needs and where we will place them. Typically, it takes about an hour or two to place a single implant. It can take two to three hours to place multiple implants.
Recovery
The recovery time for dental implants can take about three to six months. During this time, your jawbone will fuse to the implant posts. This process is called osseointegration. Placing Your Dental Restoration
Once your mouth heals, Dr. Rever will place the abutment, or connecting piece, to the implant post. It will take more time to heal properly.
Then, once you are fully healed, Dr. Rever will take several impressions of your teeth. We will use these to fabricate your new custom dental restoration. When ready, you will return to our Silver Spring office. We will check the color, shape, and fit of your restoration. Finally, we will permanently attach your restoration to your implants.

What are Teeth in a Day?
“Teeth in a Day” refers to receiving a tooth extraction, implant placement, and temporary restoration on the same day. This process is typically for patients who receive implant dentures. While this does not mean you can get your final restoration in one day, it means you are not without teeth as you heal.
Same-day implants are possible with proper preparation. Before implant treatment, we will take dental X-rays to view the teeth, gums, and jaw. We will use these X-rays to determine if you need pretreatment. Treatments like gum disease, root canals, and tooth extractions will treat problem teeth and ensure your health.
Immediate implants can ensure that you have a temporary restoration. This means you don’t need to worry about missing tooth gaps, especially in the front of the mouth.
