Dr. David Rever is an educated and talented implant dentist. He has completed the Implant Seminars Implant Dentistry Continuum, and Masters Series programs and is a member of the International College of Oral Implantologists and a Fellow of the International Dental Implant Association.
For patients that qualify, Dr. Rever will take the time to explain how the process works. The dental implant process requires time and patience. It will be completed in several steps over a span of several months, which will necessitate numerous trips to our Silver Spring, MD dental office.
The Dental Implant Process
Planning Your Treatment
To begin the process, you will meet with Dr. Rever for a full examination of your mouth and to review your medical history. This is to determine if you are healthy enough to get dental implants. To qualify for them, you must have good overall and oral health and enough bone to support the implant posts.
If you use tobacco, he will recommend you quit to give you the best chance at success. Dr. Rever will then create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. If you do not require any preparatory procedures, such as a bone graft or periodontal therapy, we can schedule your surgery quickly.
Placing Your Dental Implants
Your dentist will place dental implants in the jaw bone during a surgical procedure using a local anesthetic. The size, type, and number of implants you need depend on your unique needs and where we will place them. Typically it takes about an hour to place a single implant, but the time for multiple dental implants may last two to three hours.
Recovery
The recovery time for dental implants can take about three to six months. During this time, your jaw bone will fuse to the implant posts. This process is osseointegration. Dr. Rever will monitor you to ensure everything is healing nicely. He may be able to place a temporary restoration for comfort and aesthetic purposes during this time.
Placing Your Dental Restoration
Once your mouth heals, Dr. Rever will take several impressions of your teeth. We will use these to fabricate your new custom dental restoration. When ready, you will return to our Silver Spring office, where we will permanently attach them to your implants.
This will be a tooth crown if you’re only missing one tooth or a hybrid denture or bridge if you are missing more than one tooth. Learn more about dental crowns.
