Virtually invisible braces for crooked teeth have revolutionized orthodontics. They provide discreet, comfortable, and relatively quick treatment. Clear braces and aligners can treat a wide range of cosmetic and oral health concerns.
Silver Spring dentist and orthodontist Dr. David Rever have years of training and experience helping children and adults achieve healthier, beautiful smiles with Invisalign® clear aligners. He is an Invisalign® provider and offers Invisalign clear aligners for teens and adults who are candidates and have mild to moderate concerns.
How Does Invisalign Work?
During the Invisalign Process, Dr. Rever will first take dental impressions of your teeth. Then he will use them and the CAD/CAM software to design your custom aligners. The number of aligners you need for your treatment will depend on the severity of your dental concern(s) and cosmetic goals.
You will change the set of aligners every couple of weeks to gently move your teeth. Most patients complete treatment in about a year. We will provide instructions for wearing and changing your aligners and schedule periodic visits to check your progress. Once treatment is complete, a retainer will keep your smile looking great.
Invisalign can make it easy for adults to enjoy the benefits of orthodontic care without hassle. No more stress about food restrictions, and embarrassment with traditional metal braces. Straightening crooked teeth at any age, will improve your overall oral health and reduce the risk of many common dental problems and bite issues.
If you received orthodontic treatment as a child or teen and have shifting teeth or bite changes, Invisalign can be the perfect choice. Enhance the look of your smile and restore your oral health today.
Benefits of Invisalign
Orthodontic treatment using Invisalign offers benefits for your oral health:
- You can easily remove clear aligners for eating and oral hygiene.
- Invisalign uses smooth materials to make the aligners, and will not irritate your gums and soft mouth tissue.
- There is a low risk of tooth staining that can occur with adhesives in metal braces; or when you can’t effectively clean surface areas of your teeth.
Eating and Drinking with Invisalign
One of the best things about Invisalign is that both the upper and lower aligners are removable. So, when it’s time to eat, you can pretty much have anything you want. People who wear traditional braces with metal brackets and wires often restrict their diets. They refrain from eating popcorn, chewy candy, or hard nuts and struggle with stuck food in their braces.
Although some dentists do allow their Invisalign patients to eat soft foods while wearing their aligners, Dr. Rever doesn’t recommend it. Food can easily trap itself between your teeth and your aligners, which can increase your risk of tooth decay. And really, they are so easy to remove, why take any chances?
Drinking, of course, is another matter. There are still some guidelines you should follow. There’s no problem with drinking water while you are wearing your clear braces. However, other beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and dark colas can easily stain your aligners. And if a drink is hot, then you run the risk of warping your aligners. Therefore, be mindful of what you are about to drink when wearing your aligners.
Caring for your Invisalign Clear Aligners
Making sure your Invisalign aligners remain clear and clean is quite easy, but does require some effort. The following is what Advanced Total Dental Care recommends for daily care.
- When you remove your aligners, rinse them in cool water so saliva and plaque don’t dry on the surface.
- Sometimes soak your aligners in a mild denture cleaner, Retainer Brite, or Invisalign cleaning crystals.
- Brush and floss your teeth before reinserting your braces in order to remove food particles and bacteria.
- Brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush and antibacterial soap. Most toothpastes contain abrasives that may brighten your teeth, but they can dull or scratch your Invisalign clear braces.
