Clear braces for crooked teeth have revolutionized orthodontics, providing discreet, comfortable, and relatively expedient treatment. They can treat a wide range of cosmetic and oral health concerns.
Silver Spring family dentist and orthodontist Dr. David Rever has years of training and experience helping children and adults achieve healthier, beautiful smiles with invisible braces. He is an Invisalign® provider and offers Invisalign clear aligners for teens and adults who are candidates and have mild to moderate concerns.
Why Choose Dr. Rever for Invisalign?
Orthodontic treatment should improve both the appearance and the overall health of your smile. As a highly trained and experienced general dentist, Dr. Rever can provide orthodontic treatment that is designed to address both of these key aspects of your smile while meeting your aesthetic goals. Dr. Rever evaluates the health and condition of the teeth, gums, and jaw joints when working with you on an individual basis to develop an Invisalign treatment plan.
As your dentist, Dr. Rever monitors the function of your bite and can make recommendations for orthodontic treatment when considered an essential part of maintaining your dental health. A bite that is balanced and comfortable serves as the foundation for a lasting smile and minimizes the risk of tooth damage or decay.
How Does Invisalign Work?
During the Invisalign Process, Dr. Rever will take dental impressions of your teeth to be used with the CAD/CAM software that will design your custom aligners. The number of aligners needed for your treatment will depend upon the severity of your dental concern(s) and cosmetic goals.
The aligners will be changed every couple of weeks to gently reposition your teeth. Most patients complete treatment in about a year. We will provide instructions for wearing and changing your aligners and schedule periodic visits to check your progress. Once treatment is complete, a retainer can keep your smile looking great.
Invisalign can make it easy for adults to enjoy the benefits of orthodontic care without the hassles, dietary restrictions, and embarrassment often associated with traditional braces. Straightening crooked teeth at any age, will improve your overall oral health and reduce the risk for many common dental problems and bite dysfunction.
If you received orthodontic treatment as a child or teen and have experienced shifting teeth or bite changes, Invisalign can be the perfect solution. Enhance your smile aesthetics and restoring oral health today.
Benefits of Invisalign
Orthodontic treatment using Invisalign offers benefits for your oral health:
- Clear aligners are easily removed for eating and oral hygiene
- Smooth materials used to make the aligners will not irritate the gums and soft mouth tissue.
- Minimal risk of tooth staining that can occur with adhesives in metal braces or when surface areas of the teeth are not able to be cleaned effectively.
Eating and Drinking with Invisalign
One of the best things about Invisalign is that both the upper and lower aligners are removable. So, when it’s time to eat, you can pretty much have anything you want. People who wear traditional braces with metal brackets and wires are often on restricted diets—no popcorn, chewy candy, or hard nuts—and must contend with food getting caught in their braces.
Although some dentists do allow their Invisalign patients to eat soft foods while wearing their aligners, Dr. Rever doesn’t recommend it. Food can easily get trapped between your teeth and your aligners, which can increase your risk of tooth decay. And really, they are so easy to remove, why take any chances?
Drinking, of course, is another matter. There are still some guidelines you should follow. There’s no problem with drinking water while you are wearing your clear braces. However, other beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine, and dark colas can easily stain your aligners. And if a drink is hot, then you run the risk of warping your braces. Therefore, be mindful of what you are about to drink when wearing your aligners.
Caring for your Invisalign Clear Aligners
Making sure your Invisalign aligners remain clear and clean is quite easy, but does require some effort. The following is what Advanced Total Dental Care recommends for daily care.
- When you remove your aligners, rinse them in cool water so saliva and plaque don’t dry on the surface.
- Soak your aligners occasionally in a mild denture cleaner, Retainer Brite, or Invisalign cleaning crystals.
- Brush and floss your teeth before reinserting your braces in order to remove food particles and bacteria.
- Brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush and antibacterial soap. Most toothpaste contains abrasives that may brighten your teeth, but they can dull or scratch your Invisalign clear braces.
