How to Get a Smile Makeover

It’s hard to have a smile that you’re not happy with. If you’re struggling to show it off, maybe it’s time for a smile makeover. A trip to your local cosmetic dentist in Silver Spring, MD, Advanced Total Dental Care, can start you on the path to a smile you’re proud of.

Starting Your Smile Makeover

Everything starts with a consultation with Dr. Rever. Before you go in, take a full evaluation of what you want from a new smile. What are the things you’re most unhappy with? Do you want a perfectly white and aligned smile or do you want something that looks more natural? Do your gums show too much when you smile?

Once you fully have answers to all of these questions, you’re ready for your consultation. Dr. Rever will ask you questions, take a look at your teeth, and evaluate the state of your oral health. He’ll form a fully personalized treatment plan for you. This is based on his discussions with you, your budget, and what he’s found during his evaluation. He’ll recommend a variety of services to treat your concerns.

Teeth Whitening

One of the simplest ways to transform a smile is by whitening your teeth. If they’re discolored from age or stained from certain food and drinks, teeth whitening can usually take care of it. As long as the stains are on the outer layer of your teeth, the enamel, tooth whitening can get rid of them.

Total Dental Care offers both in-office and take-home teeth whitening options. If you want to slowly whiten your teeth and have a natural look, the take-home option is best. A custom set of trays is made from a mold of your mouth. You fill the trays with whitening gel and wear them for an hour a day. You can stop when you’re at the level of whitening you desire!

For a quick and extreme whitening solution, we offer it in-office. Using a special whitening gel, Dr. Rever can lighten your teeth multiple shades in just an hour or so. Once that gel is removed, you’ll notice a much brighter smile.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a cost-effective way to fix chips and cracks in your teeth. It can also be used to whiten or close gaps in the teeth. A special composite resin is molded to fill the chip and to blend naturally with the shape of your tooth. The resin can be color-matched to your teeth or whitened more if you’d like. A special light is used to harden the resin, and it’s polished to have the reflective look of a normal tooth. Done in just one visit, your chip is now gone!

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a good way to fully redo your smile. Made of thin slices of dental ceramic, these go over the front of your tooth. This makes them a good option to cover anything from discolored and chipped teeth to teeth that may be deformed or crooked. They can solve spacing issues between teeth or teeth that you want to look longer.

A mold of the teeth you want veneers applied to will be taken and sent to a specialized dental lab. This lab will make your permanent veneers, while you wear a temporary set in the meantime. Once they’re back, they’ll be tried on to make sure they’re comfortable and the color you want before they’re permanently bonded to your teeth. Stain-resistant and durable, these can keep your smile sparkling for up to 20 years!

Botox and Dermal Fillers

Surprisingly, Botox and dermal fillers can be helpful components in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Rever has extensively studied the muscles in the head and neck area. Using Botox and Juvederm, smile lines and other lines around your mouth and eyes can be eliminated. Your face and lips can get back volume that diminishes with age. All of this helps accentuate your beautiful smile.
